Swift LT

The Swift LT is the result of revisions to the design for the Swift line of nasal pillows.

The LT, which can be purchased for around $120, is said to be quite a bit quieter than the initial Swift models. Users say air is exhausted from the mask in a downward direction, which is more natural and less disruptive to both the user and his or her bed partner.

It's certainly not obstrusive.

The mask is lightweight at 2.3 ounces, and because it is a nasal pillow, it covers only a small section of the face. That translates to a comfortable experience for the user, and that means that the treatment for sleep apnea disorder has a much better chance of being successful. The design also allows the user to read just before he or she goes to sleep because the mask doesn't hinder field of view.

As part of the redesign, the Swift LT features pillows with dual walls for better comfort. The pillows also allow for the sleeper to toss and turn without therapy disruption. In most cases, the Swift LT will still maintain a seal. And the cushions come in three sizes: Small, medium and large.

The revised headgear also has Velcro straps, which allows for one-time fitting. Once the straps are adjusted for your head size, you won't need to readjust them every time you put them on.

The Swift LT employs a mechanism that the manufacturer ResMed Corp. calls the the "rotating barrel" to adjust how the mask pillows sit at the entrance to the nostrils so they are comfortably under the nose. It also has a 360 degree rotating elbow where the breathing tube attaches to the mask. That allows for the tube to be moved around, to almost any position the user wants.

The ResMed Swift LT is a vast improvement over the early versions of the Swift masks, but how does it compare with the another new Swift model, the Swift FX?

While the LT is a favorite mask of many CPAP users, others have converted to the Swift FX because, many say, the FX is even lighter and quieter, and they're having an easier time achieving a good seal and a comfortable fit with the FX. Most users say that with its even more minimalistic design the FX enhances the LT’s “barely there” feeling, restoring a sense of freedom among CPAP users that is often lost when the nightly treatments begin.
